Broken Windows and Burst Pipes

Owning a century old home sounds idyllic, Right?  Cute historic charm seems to be exploding at every angle.  However, what people often forget about in older homes is that everything in it, from plumbing to electrical to windows, are just that, OLD.

After living in our place for almost 3 years now, I feel like I can say with authority that old houses break, A LOT.  That’s not to say that it isn’t worth it to fix things up and make them beautiful again.  It does take a lot of work, a lot of money and a lot of love.

When we first bought our home, leaks and anything broken caused me immense stress.  Now, not so much.  After 3 years of leaks in basically every area of our home, we are now pros at calling someone to helps us fix things that we don’t know how to and a little more knowledgeable about the process, time and money to expect to pay to fix “just a little leak.” We also have a much more healthy “Uh Oh fund” now that we know what to expect.

This week and last week has been about getting quotes to give some much needed love to some old windows and fix some leaky pipes in our house.  Today, I am reminding my self that the house will be beautiful again and it little less leaky soon! Not to worry, someone that knows what they are doing will be here to fix it soon!  In the mean time, just live through it.
